Jim Jones Loses His Publishing Rights And Control Over Max B's Career

Max B

Dipset's Jim Jones has reportedly lost his publishing rights to incarcerated former associate, Max B.

Despite being behind bars Max B recently got a reason to celebrate. Yesterday (May 26) a judge ruled that Jim Jones no longer has any rights over the incarcerated rapper or his work, making way for his long-awaited album, Vigilante Season, to drop on indie Amalgam Digital. Reps for label told XXL that the judge ruled the Harlemite has fully performed his obligations under both his 2005 recording contract and 2007 songwriting contract with Jones. Basically that means the Dipset Capo has no claim over any music recordings Max created with Amalgam, including songs used on Vigilante Season. (XXL Mag)

Max B previously spoke on his relationship with Jones last June.

"Nah, Jim ain't reach out," Max said in a phone interview. "I'm waiting for him. I'm trying to get this Vigilante Season out so hopefully he can reach out to me and get a check together. You know, shout-out to Jim Jones. I want a check, lets get a check...I had fun man, this has been the best two and a half, three years of my life. I did so much. I was stuck in the contract and I still somehow slipped through the crack and became successful. I go to bed with a smile on my face every night." (G-Unit Radio)

Last September, Max B associate and producer Dame Grease said in appeal was in the works.

"The appeal is looking good. I actually now speak with him every other day. He's good and that's what counts. I hate people when they talk about, 'Yo Max music, I need mad music.' He's good and that's what counts. Family's good. Just working it, working the process. Gotta put the appeal in, got to put the dates in, gotta go through situations, many people gotta do what they gotta do. You know what I'm saying?" (Vlad TV)

Max's ex-girlfriend, Gina Conway, who had previously accepted a plea deal in the case, was sentenced early in September. The ex-girlfriend of rap artist Max B has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her role in a deadly robbery at a northern New Jersey hotel. Gina Conway was sentenced Friday, one day after Max B , whose real name is Charly Wingate , was ordered to serve 75 years and his stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, received a life term plus 35 years for their roles in the September 2006 robbery in Fort Lee. Prosecutors said they and Conway , who took a plea deal and testified against the pair, plotted to rob two men she had recently met.

2Pac

Tupac Shakur - Biography

2Pac became the unlikely martyr of gangsta rap, and a tragic symbol of the toll its lifestyle exacted on urban black America. At the outset of his career, it didn't appear that he would emerge as one of the definitive rappers of the '90s — he started out as a second-string rapper and dancer for Digital Underground, joining only after they had already landed their biggest hit. But in 1992, he delivered an acclaimed debut album, 2Pacalypse Now, and quickly followed with a star-making performance in the urban drama Juice. Over the course of one year, his profile rose substantially, based as much on his run-ins with the law as his music.

By 1994, 2Pac rivaled Snoop Dogg as the most controversial figure in rap, spending as much time in prison as he did in the recording studio. His burgeoning outlaw mythology helped his 1995 album Me Against the World enter the charts at number one, and it also opened him up to charges of exploitation. Yet, as the single "Dear Mama" illustrated, he was capable of sensitivity as well as violence. Signing with Death Row Records in late 1995, 2Pac released the double-album All Eyez on Me in the spring of 1996, and the record, as well as its hit single "California Love," confirmed his superstar status. Unfortunately, the gangsta lifestyle he captured in his music soon overtook his own life. While his celebrity was at its peak, he publicly fought with his rival, the Notorious B.I.G., and there were tensions brewing at Death Row. Even with such conflicts, however, 2Pac's drive-by shooting in September 1996 came as an unexpected shock. On September 13, six days after the shooting, 2Pac passed away, leaving behind a legacy that was based as much on his lifestyle as it was his music.

Kelis

GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Kelis tops Billboard’s Dance/Club Play Songs chart again, taking “Acapella,” the lead single from her forthcoming album, Flesh Tone, to No. 1 this week. Her hit “Milkshake” topped the same chart in 2003 and sold over 1.2 million digital singles. Flesh Tone, which Billboard singled out as one of 2010’s “Best Bets,” will be released this spring by will.i.am Music Group/Interscope Records.

“Kelis has always been a best kept secret. The cool people know Kelis,” will.i.am told Vibe.com in a recent interview (http://www.vibe.com/posts/william-believes-kelis’-milkshake). “She can be big…As big as the Peas.”

People selected the new single for its “Hot Downloads” column, noting: “Kelis brings her milkshake back with ‘Acapella,’ a frenetic techno groove from her forthcoming disc, Flesh Tone.” “The ‘Milkshake’ temptress returns with another tall glass of delicious – and this disco-tipped track from her upcoming album is a feathery dance-floor delight,” said Entertainment Weekly, placing “Acapella” on “The MustList” while accesshollywood.com said, “this track is the Jam.com!“
